Looking for a quick, easy-to-follow skincare routine for men to keep skin firm, clear, and bright?
Maintaining great skin doesn’t need to be complicated. Our basic skincare routine for men is minimalist and easy to fit into the busiest day.
We’re talking less than 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes in the evening.
We skip the extras like masks, serums, and eye creams and just explain the essential core products you need to keep your skin in great shape.
This skincare routine for men might not be about quantity, but it is about quality.
With only a few minutes to spend on your skin each day, you want to get the most bang for your skincare buck by making sure the ingredients you apply are working hard for you.
At each step, we’ll highlight some natural ingredients, including Australian botanical extracts that deliver real skincare results without the chemicals.
Deep cleanse (morning and evening)
Cleansing in the morning and evening is non-negotiable in any skincare routine for men.
It clears the dirt, sweat, dead cells and oil build up on your skin during the day and while you sleep and gives you a clean slate.
You’ll minimise clogged pores (which lead to acne and breakouts) and your face will look fresher. Moisturiser and any other skincare products you use will absorb into the skin better, too.
Choose a cleanser that is specifically suited to your skin type.
Nope, regular bar soap won’t cut it. The kind of soap you use on your body in the shower isn’t suitable for your face – it will dry your skin out.

Moisturise (morning and evening)
With freshly cleansed skin, you’re ready to hit the next step of this basic skincare routine for men – moisturising.
A quality moisturiser not only maintains skin hydration, it helps keep the outer layer of skin functioning properly. This minimises the appearance irritation and inflammation on your face.
Moisturising after you shave will also help calm the skin and restore its protective barrier.
Everyone can benefit from moisturising – even if you have oily skin.
The quick pay off? Your face will feel more comfortable (no more tightness), look smoother, and healthier.
In the long run, daily use of a moisturiser with anti-ageing ingredients will slow the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Kakadu Plum extract: This little beauty is nature’s richest known source of vitamin C. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant known for its anti-ageing and skin brightening properties. When Mother nature was asked to create a extract that is the holy grail of skin care ingredients, she responded with the Kakadu Plum.
Mountain Pepper extract: Brimming with free radical fighting antioxidant properties essential for skin strengthening, healing and wrinkle busting.
SPF protection is a must in every skincare routine for men.
If your moisturiser doesn’t already contain at SPF broad spectrum you’ll need to apply it separately in the morning. The sun’s UV rays speed up the signs of premature ageing and worse, can lead to various forms of cancer – including melanoma.
The Skin Cancer Foundation Australia recommends SPF 15 for everyday use if you are exposed to UV during brief periods throughout the day, like walking the dog or commuting to work.
If you spend extended periods in the sun, SPF30+ is recommended.
Exfoliation (once or twice a week)
Exfoliating removes dirt and dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, which keeps your face clean, unclogs pores, and encourages skin cell regeneration.
You don’t want to go over the top with exfoliation – once or twice a week is a good rule of thumb.
Exfoliation not only improves your skin, it helps make shaving easier too.
When you exfoliate, you clear the dead skin and dirt out of the way. This means the razor glides more smoothly over the skin which makes for a closer shave.
Always exfoliate before you shave to reduce the chance of irritation. A freshly shaven face is sensitive and exfoliating afterwards will likely irritate the skin and cause excess redness.
Be sure to follow your exfoliation session with a moisturiser.
Natural ingredients your skin will love
Lilly Pilly extract: The astringent properties of this native Australian plant provide gentle exfoliation, leaving the skin smoother and clearer.
Jojoba beads: A great alternative plastic microbeads that are found in many synthetic exfoliators, jojoba beads are a natural, safer way to exfoliate your skin.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve never had a skincare routine in your life, now is the best time to start. There’s nothing vain about it.
We’ve covered a basic skincare routine for men here but adding clay masks and other extra specialised treatments down the track are all possibilities too.
Just like lifting at the gym, building a great skincare routine is about starting small and committing to consistency. Your face will thank you for the results.
