How to avoid post-workout acne with healthy skin routine

Post workout skincare tips: Whichever way you look at it, exercise is a good idea. As well as improving your health and overall sense of wellbeing. 1. Put on newly washed clothes at the beginning of every workout

Unwashed clothes contain a significant amount of oil, bacteria and dead skin cells. These can irritate your skin and lead to acne. Make sure to have a number of gym clothes on rotation and put your gear in the washing machine immediately after a workout.

2. Apply sunscreen before heading outside

If you like to exercise in the open air, make sure to apply oil-free sunscreen before you start a workout session. Contrary to popular belief, the sun can actually cause acne because it dries the skin, encouraging it to produce more oil. This can clog pores and lead to breakouts. Remember to look out for sunscreen that is water-resistant (you will probably be sweating a lot) and has an SPF of 30 or higher.

3. Carry a clean towel

Bring a newly washed towel to pat the sweat off your skin. This will stop your pores from clogging.

4. Wipe down any shared equipment

If you decide to hit the gym, remember to wipe down any shared equipment with a clean towel or wipe. Failing to do so may expose you to other people’s oil and bacteria. As well as being a little gross, this can cause acne or make breakouts worse.

5. Try to shower immediately after the workout

Taking a refreshing shower and cleansing your skin from sweat after working out will rinse away acne-causing bacteria.
